Whisper interpretation is an interpretation service in which an interpreter quietly translates the speaker’s speech at assorted meetings, trips, or conferences. You can procure this interpretation service, as with simultaneous interpretation, at meetings where the installation of a simultaneous interpretation system is not necessary but where interpretation is necessary for one or more participants. Whisper interpretation services can also be offered at trips, meetings, or conferences to a small group of listeners or a wider audience who do not speak the speaker’s language. If this service is to be given to one or two people, the interpreter stands next to the people who need interpretation and translate in a whisper only they can hear. The infoport system is used with larger audiences. Whisper interpretation can be offered using the infoport system, especially at events that must be mobile such as field visits and factory tours.

Whisper interpretation is a form of simultaneous interpretation. The interpreter starts translating without waiting for the speaker to pause for interpretation and completes interpreting in more or less the same time as the speaker stops talking. The translation is not expected to take much time in this type of interpretation, as in consecutive interpretation.

For whisper interpretation, it is recommended that one interpreter’s continuous interpretation ideally not exceed 45 minutes. Two interpreters must be available at events that will last all day.
