Why to Use Remote Simultaneous Interpretation Platform?

As we all know, in 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic made remote working a reality throughout the world. During this time, we realized that working remotely both reduces costs and increases productivity.

So, What Has Changed in Simultaneous Interpretation?

In the past, when we talked about remote simultaneous interpretation, the first thing that comes to mind was teleinterpreting. Now it has evolved into Remote Simultaneous Interpretation, or RSI, which is a new service. While Remote Simultaneous Interpretation did not first emerge in 2020, it became more widely used.

What Is Remote Simultaneous Interpretation?

Simultaneous interpretation generally takes the form of simultaneous interpretation where speakers talk at an event using simultaneous interpretation equipment in a booth by two simultaneous interpreters in the venue where the event is held. This requires simultaneous interpreters to move from one city to another and to hire one or more simultaneous interpretation systems. This in turn increases the price of simultaneous interpretation.

Remote simultaneous interpretation means that the same simultaneous interpretation is offered online. With remote interpretation, simultaneous interpreters can interpret from home and deliver top-notch work with professional equipment.

Please take a look at our blog post titled Have You Considered a Remote Interpretation Service Solution? which explains that remote simultaneous interpretation is more useful for everyone.

Why Use a Remote Simultaneous Interpretation Platform for Remote Simultaneous Interpretation?

With the increase in remote simultaneous interpretation, many new RSI platforms have appeared. Channels referred to as interpretation channels, which ensure that interpreters do not interfere with the voices while the speakers are speaking, led to this increase. These channels enable the listeners who do not know this language to choose the channel given to the interpreters while a speaker is speaking and listen to the translation done by the simultaneous interpreters.

In addition, these platforms can provide more access to the moderators (translation team coordinator) we provide at your events to assist simultaneous interpreters and provide a better simultaneous interpretation service. Read more to learn about the tasks of the translation team coordinator at HeliCo Translation or the moderator at Interprefy.

What Remote Simultaneous Interpretation Equipment Is Needed?

For remote simultaneous interpretation, the same equipment as simultaneous interpretation service provided on-site is needed. However, this equipment is generally intended for simultaneous interpreters. A set of simultaneous interpretation equipment needed by simultaneous interpreters includes:

  • Continuous Internet connection with high upload and download speed (at least 5x5).
  • Microphone and headset that does not generate noise or transmit ambient noise, or a headset suitable for simultaneous interpretation use.
  • A computer that can run programs smoothly (a desktop computer that can prevent problems caused by a power failure, or a laptop with high battery capacity).

HeliCo Translation attaches importance to having this equipment for all interpreters it works with.

Which of the Remote Simultaneous Interpretation Platforms on the Market Does HeliCo Prefer?

Although there are many remote simultaneous interpretation platforms, Interprefy and Zoom are among the top preferences of HeliCo Translation These platforms are frequently preferred because of their suitability for customers and ease of use of for both customers and interpreters, amongst others.

You can choose other simultaneous translation-assisted platforms such as SpeakUS, Interactio, Kudoway and VoiceBoxer, other than Zoom and Interprefy when working with HeliCo Translation. Get in contact with us for more information about the platforms available, features, and prices.

Why Interprefy?

One of the reasons we chose Interprefy is its interface. An important feature is that the translation team coordinators intervene in many things in the translation phase, thus facilitating the work for both the interpreters and the event provider. Interprefy’s interface offers this opportunity. Using Interprefy on its own and together with another meeting platform provides greater advantages for both us and our customers. Use on mobile devices and computers increases accessibility for everyone. The handover feature between interpreters makes it very easy for interpreters to carry out simultaneous interpretation.

The negative sides of Interprefy include: its price is slightly higher compared to other platforms and interpreters and coordinators using Interprefy receive a special training at a cost.

Why Zoom?

While Zoom is not a remote simultaneous interpretation platform, it is an application that has a solid reputation among RSI platforms thanks to the Zoom translation feature. The Zoom translation feature provides ease of use for both interpreters and the audience. Reasons for using Zoom include its low cost and the fact that interpreters can use it even without receiving specialized training on the platform. It can even be used on mobile devices and PCs. The greatest advantage of Zoom is that it has been used by many around the world for Zoom meetings that require simultaneous interpretation, and it is much more widely used during this time when remote meetings became mandatory.

The negative features of Zoom include limited access by translation team coordinators and limited options in its interface. As I have previously mentioned, this is because the Zoom is not software developed only to offer simultaneous interpretation services.

Who Is an Interpretation Team Coordinator and What Task Do They Take On?

Simultaneous interpretation is an exhausting process. For this reason, simultaneous interpreters may leave their microphones turned on without noticing, experience unnoticed malfunctions in their systems, sudden faults or Internet problems, or interpreters may not be on the right channel.  In this case, the interpretation team coordinator who constantly communicates with the interpreters may correct such problems without the customer noticing. If the RSI platform allows, they can solve most problems without causing any problems for interpreters, or when Zoom is used, they diagnose the problem quickly and solve it by getting in touch with interpreters. This service is included in the simultaneous interpretation fee at HeliCo Translation and no extra fee is charged for this.

Where Can I Receive Remote Simultaneous Interpretation Services?

While remote simultaneous interpretation makes things easier, it stands out as an efficient and top-notch service when it is offered as a team. For this reason, only work with professional simultaneous interpretation service providers. Remember that HeliCo Team is at your service whenever you need help.
